For students transferring into the sixth form from Year 11 at Haywood Academy, there is the advantage that they will already be well known and their strengths, and weaknesses already identified. This means we can offer guidance and support from the beginning of their sixth form life and they can focus on their work and other activities in a secure and well-understood environment.
For students joining the sixth form from another school or college, the induction process and pastoral system is designed to ease the ‘settling in’ period and support is available from the sixth form team throughout the transfer process and on into the academic year.
The personal tutor is a central figure for students at Haywood Sixth Form Academy. Tutors have pastoral oversight of all of our young people and will meet regularly with students either individually or in groups. It is the tutor’s role to be the first point of contact between students, their parents, and the sixth form. This is likely to be one of the support members of staff that will work with students on a day to day basis.
Supporting the personal tutor is Mrs Fergusson (Senior Assistant Headteacher, Sixth Form) who takes an active role in the lives of students and will personally monitor their academic progress as they progress through the sixth form. She will liaise closely with other agencies and provide extra professional support and guidance for any students who need it.
There is also a dedicated careers team, working together for students to move them through the UCAS application process or support them in gaining employment.
